Simple pavers integrated into a design can be used to allow access for window washing hooks on a condo balcony.

Hazelwood Condo Balcony

View from one end of the balcony.

A recent installation we did for a nice customer in the east end of Toronto.  A Hazelwood Balcony where the design had to be adapted for the window washing hooks which are quite common in condos.

In the photo to the left you can see the pattern chosen for this balcony - where multiple "rooms" have been built with double vertical boards to make it appear wider.

The composite is from TruNorth Decking who are our favourite supplier.  This Hazelwood is very popular and with the nice black markings it creates a beautiful floor.  The composite is made from 100% recycled plastic and rice hulls from Alabama which fits right in with our focus on environmental stewardship.

The second photo on the right show the inside part of the balcony where we integrated some simple paving stones into the design.  The gap on each side of the stones is to allow the customer to easily and quickly lift up the stones to allow the window washing crews access to the hooks. Just simple pavers but they did the trick and actually create a bit more structure in the design.

A simple design made of porcelain tiles makes this condo balcony a full extension of the living space.

Wide Porcelain Tiles

These wide porcelain tiles are from a great article on engaging Asian balconies that we love.

This style could also be accomplished with wide, wooden panels but the tiles are so nice and clean that they are my favourite option.

In Toronto you're usually not allowed to change the wall colour or put up stone (who invented that stupid rule!) but you can put up a hanging or something else that gives you a more balanced look than grey concrete.

I like the two sizes of tile and the simplicity of the design.  Beautiful.

Lots of great inspiration from the folks in Asia in how to make a small balcony beautiful!

Grass With White Stones Balcony

Another in our series of beautiful balconies, this grass with white stones balcony is from 15 Engaging Asian Balcony Designs That Will Inspire You.

We have lots of beautiful artificial grass we can now use that is nothing like the old turf.  It last a long time and gives you a cushy feel underneath the feet.

In this design they also use some nice dark wood (which would also be nice as flooring) all around and together with the grass, makes the white stones really stand out. Lots of inspiration to be gathered from Asia!

Porcelain tiles are perfect for condo balconies and cover while allowing access to window washing hooks that are often quite ugly.

Stunning Porcelain Tiles

Stunning porcelain tiles with river stone between.

Next in our series of porcelain tiles is this beauty which has the porcelain tiles interspersed with a dark river stone to highlight the edges.

This is a terrific look for a large or small condo balcony and has a very practical application as well.  The river stones allow water to drain away into the sub-flooring before, keeping your sitting and walking area nice and dry.

These large porcelain tiles are incredibly strong and can be supported underneath in a variety of ways.  We also use tiles like this to cover the various hooks and other devices on the roof that the building management many need access to on a semi-regular basis.  They can be easily lifted up and put back down without changing the long term look of the terrace.
